Utterance of Marvels

Gorges of Spirits · The road to Jinzhou

Rover awakens in an unfamiliar world with no memory of who they are. Yet almost immediately, there are signs that their arrival is anything but ordinary. The Prologue introduces several mysteries surrounding Rover’s identity, while suggesting that their appearance may be connected to events already unfolding in Jinzhou.

Knowledge through Prologue · Parts I & II

This page includes only information revealed up to the end of this act. Later revelations are intentionally excluded. Interpretations and unanswered questions are identified separately from established facts.

01 / IDENTITY

Rover’s Missing Memories

Rover upside down in a sea in the sky

Rover remembers nothing about their identity or how they arrived in the Gorges of Spirits. Even the name “Rover” is given to them by Yangyang.

Yet their memory loss does not seem to have affected their ability to fight. They can handle Tacet Discords despite having no recollection of their past. Rover has lost their personal memories, but not necessarily their learned abilities.

There is also something unusual about the circumstances in which they were found. Rover appeared to have drowned, but their airway was clear and their clothes were dry.

Unanswered questions: Where did Rover come from? Why have they lost their memories? And how did they end up at the bottom of the gorge?

02 / MYSTERY

The Vision of Jué

Vision of Jué

Rover experiences a vision of Jinzhou’s Sentinel, Jué, shortly after seeing its statue.

Yangyang explains that Sentinels rarely appear before ordinary people. Only an Appointed Resonator is normally permitted close contact with one. Rover’s vision, however, suggests an encounter at remarkably close range.

If the vision represents a genuine memory, Rover may have had some connection to Jué before awakening in the gorge. But the Prologue offers no confirmation that the vision depicts an actual past event.

Unanswered questions: Has Rover met Jué before? If so, under what circumstances? And why does this particular sight seem to trigger a memory?

03 / ABILITIES

The Unusual Echo Absorption

Rover confronts an Echo they cannot collect normally

The encounter with the powerful Tacet Discord provides the clearest demonstration that Rover possesses abilities beyond those of an ordinary Resonator.

When Rover’s Terminal cannot absorb the defeated enemy’s Echo, Rover absorbs it directly into their body instead.

Yangyang recalls an ancient account describing a celestial being capable of doing something similar. The resemblance is striking, but Baizhi warns against drawing conclusions without evidence.

Part II adds another important detail. When Rover attempts to repeat the feat with a weaker Tacet Discord, the ability does not activate. Their Terminal, however, absorbs the Echo normally.

This suggests that Rover’s unusual absorption ability cannot simply be activated at will, at least not with their current understanding of it. Whether the ability depends on the strength of the Tacet Discord, the type of Echo, or something else remains unknown.

Unanswered questions: What allowed Rover to absorb the first Echo? Why could they not repeat it? And what was the mysterious hungry voice heard during the absorption?

04 / THE ROAD AHEAD

Jinhsi’s Invitation

Jinhsi addresses Jinzhou in a public broadcast

Jinhsi’s public broadcast changes the direction of Rover’s journey.

The Magistrate announces that Jinzhou has been awaiting a visitor of extraordinary importance. She also acknowledges that this person may be confused by their circumstances and may have experienced unusual events.

The description closely matches Rover’s situation. Yangyang, Chixia, and Baizhi consequently suspect that Rover is the person Jinhsi is addressing.

What is particularly interesting is that Jinhsi appears to have anticipated this visitor’s arrival, while Rover has no knowledge of any such arrangement. However, Jinhsi never explicitly identifies Rover in the broadcast, and the group cannot confirm their interpretation.

Unanswered questions: How does Jinhsi know about the visitor? Why is their arrival so important to Jinzhou and Huanglong? And what answers might she be able to provide?

05 / MYSTERY

The Mysterious Watcher

Mysterious watcher

As Rover approaches Jinzhou, an unknown girl watches from a distance and addresses them as her “seed of fate.”

Unlike Yangyang and Chixia, who encounter Rover by chance as far as the story reveals, this girl appears to recognize them. Her words suggest a personal interest in Rover, although the nature of that interest is unclear.

The scene also introduces another possibility: Jinhsi may not be the only person who has been expecting Rover.

Unanswered questions: Who is the girl? How does she know Rover? And what does she mean by “seed of fate”?

06 / INTERPRETATION

A Journey Already in Motion

One of the Prologue’s central ideas is the contrast between Rover’s lack of knowledge and the apparent importance others place on them.

Rover begins with no memories, no destination, and no understanding of their abilities. Yet they experience a vision of a rarely seen Sentinel, demonstrate an extraordinary power, and receive what appears to be an invitation from Jinzhou’s highest authority.

By the end of Part II, Rover has a direction: travel into Jinzhou, meet the Magistrate, and investigate their unusual condition.

The Prologue does not answer the mystery of Rover’s identity. Instead, it establishes why that mystery matters—and introduces several people who may already know more than Rover does.
